About Lent Event

Lent Event is your opportunity to change lives

This is your call to be personally changed by God’s work in the world. As you learn about and raise funds for UnitingWorld's church partners, you're building peace, beating poverty and creating hope.

Since 2009, Lent Event has raised over 3 million dollars for people living in the Pacific, Asia and Africa through long-term partnerships with the Uniting Church in Australia.

In 2020, our focus is on supporting the work of Christian and Muslims working together against fear, religious intolerance and poverty.

Under the leadership of our partner church in Ambon, Indonesia, we're seeing families better fed and educated, as well as the growth of a new generation of young leaders dedicated to peace.

Thanks so much for being with us. With your help, we can't wait to see this work continue to thrive and expand!

Sureka,

Frequently asked questions

What projects does Lent Event support?

We support projects in the Pacific, Asia and Africa that provide clean water, education, healthcare, leadership, child protection, small business startups, empowerment for women, and building resilience to disasters and climate change.

In 2020 we’re featuring projects in Ambon, Indonesia, bringing Christians and Muslims together to build peace and beat poverty. The work supports small business start ups to help families create an income, small business training and peace workshops for young leaders in high schools.

How does UnitingWorld use my support?

Rather than send people overseas, we work in partnership with local churches and Christian organisations. Our work is guided by determined and resourceful local communities who are best placed to identify sustainable solutions to the problems they face. We help provide the resourcing, training and accountability measures to ensure our partners can make the most difference in their communities.

All support given is used by UnitingWorld and our partners to build lives of hope and wholeness. 74% goes directly to our international programs with partners; 13% is invested into fundraising strategies to help us raise funds for our projects; 10% is used to make sure that the projects you support are properly administered and accountable and 3% is used for community education.

UnitingWorld is accredited by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and is a member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID). As signatory to the ACFID Code of Conduct, we are held accountable to the highest standards of governance, financial transparency and effectiveness in our work.

Who is UnitingWorld and where can I learn more?

WHO WE ARE

UnitingWorld is the international aid and partnerships agency of the Uniting Church in Australia, based in Sydney Australia.

We work for a world where lives are whole and hopeful, free from poverty and injustice. Our work focuses on five program areas: poverty reduction, gender equity, leadership, climate justice and disaster response.

OUR APPROACH

We connect people and communities in Australia, the Pacific, Asia and Africa to work together to overcome poverty and injustice.

Rather than send people overseas, we work in partnership with local churches and Christian organisations. Our work is guided by determined and resourceful local communities who are best placed to identify sustainable solutions to the problems they face. We help provide the means and training to help their communities thrive long term.

OUR VALUES

Every person matters. Every person is beloved by God and invited to enjoy the rich blessing of abundant life. We believe that together we’re called to build a world where lives are whole and hopeful, free from poverty and injustice.

We work with and through church partners, but our programs include all people regardless of their faith, sexuality, ethnicity, ability or gender. We seek out the marginalised and the vulnerable. We listen to the voices of the poorest.

We value the partnerships we have with local communities and learn from each other through church relationships that stretch back more than hundred years. We are inspired by our partners’ hope, resilience and faith.
